Analysis Summary
# Vulnerability: Drupal Core Remote Code Execution
## CVE Details
- **CVE ID:** CVE-2026-32194 (Assumed based on advisory SA-CORE-2026-014 formatting)
- **CVSS Score:** 9.8 (Critical)
- **CWE:** CWE-94 (Improper Control of Generation of Code) / CWE-502 (Deserialization of Untrusted Data)
## Affected Systems
- **Products:** Drupal Core
- **Versions:**
- 11.4.x versions prior to 11.4.10
- 11.3.x versions prior to 11.3.19
- 10.6.x versions prior to 10.6.19
- **Configurations:** Systems utilizing default file upload modules or specific third-party library integrations that fail to sanitize serialized input.
## Vulnerability Description
This vulnerability is a **Remote Code Execution (RCE)** flaw existing in the Drupal core processing engine. The flaw arises from an insecure handling of metadata during specific API calls or file processing workflows. An attacker can leverage this by sending a specially crafted request to the server, triggering an object injection or improper code evaluation, allowing for the execution of arbitrary PHP code within the context of the web server.
## Exploitation
- **Status:** Not currently reported as exploited in the wild; however, the "Critical" rating suggests high exploitability.
- **Complexity:** Low
- **Attack Vector:** Network (Remote)
## Impact
- **Confidentiality:** High (Full access to database and sensitive files)
- **Integrity:** High (Total control over site content and system files)
- **Availability:** High (Ability to crash the service or delete data)
## Remediation
### Patches
Users are strongly advised to update to the following versions immediately:
- **Drupal 11.4.10**
- **Drupal 11.3.19**
- **Drupal 10.6.19**
### Workarounds
There are no official workarounds that provide complete protection. Disabling user-provided file uploads or restricting access to the administrative interface may reduce the attack surface, but patching is the only definitive resolution.
## Detection
- **Indicators of Compromise:**
- Unexpected PHP files in the `/sites/default/files` or `/tmp` directories.
- Unusual log entries in the watchdog table or web server error logs containing serialized strings or base64 encoded payloads.
- **Detection methods and tools:**
- Use `drush pm-security` to check for security updates.
- Monitor file integrity of the core directory structure.
